Is Medical PG  in UK valid in India?

As a UK postgraduate medical qualification, awarded by British Universities, is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) now NMC as a valid postgraduate qualification to register and practice as per the official Medical Council of India website.

The Indian Ministry of Health & Family Welfare notified that:

“All postgraduate medical qualifications awarded in the United Kingdom and recognised for enrolment as medical practitioners in the concerned specialities in that country”

How can I get admission in Medical PG in UK without PLAB?

The General Medical Council (GMC) of the UK clearly mentioned on their website that one can secure “Full Registration” in five ways. Appearing for PLAB is just one of the available options. Out of five available routes, Indian MBBS are eligible for only two options.

Is the course clinical or research-based?

Do I need to write any screening test or exam to practice in India after Medical PG in UK?

No, you are not required to take any screening exam or test to register and practice in India. In fact, MCI doesn’t have any such exam. Only undergraduates are required to take an FMGE to practice in India. MCI recognises PG qualifications and degrees from five English-speaking countries only namely USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Also, as per the latest proposal in which PG degree and qualification holders from abroad are required to appear and pass DNB Exam to validate their qualifications and practice in India. These five English-speaking countries are exempted from the test and will be taken equivalent to MD/MS/DM/MCH as the case may be.  Medical PG from UK is eligible for appointment as an assistant professor in medical colleges in India

If one wants to practice in UK then one has to get into specialist register by taking membership of concerned college/society. Only degree from UK doesn’t make you eligible to practice in UK. Doctors who are registered in UK specialist register are allowed to practice in 147 countries across the globe without any licensing exam.

Do I need to take any entrance exam to pursue Medical PG in UK

The UK Universities offer admission on the basis of your previous education qualifications and interview. You are not required to take any test to pursue Medical PG in the UK. You will be required to take IELTS or equivalent examination to meet university English Language requirement.
