The Medical Council of India (MCI) has enlisted various Qualifications in Schedule 2 and Schedule 3 of the Indian Medical Council Act. It provides an extensive list of PG Qualifications which are recognized as a Practicable qualification in India. As per the amendment made in 2008 ” All Post Graduate Medical Qualifications awarded in UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and are recognised for enrolment as a medical practitioner in the concerned speciality in that country” are valid in India. Also MCI made an amendment in 2008 to add more qualifications from UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand
Board of Governors of Medical Council of India has proposed DNB exam for foreign PG Medical Graduates who completed their course from other than five English Speaking countries. Also, the qualification will be taken equivalent to DNB in India where as PG Qualifications from UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will be taken equivalent to MD/MS/DM/MCH as the case may be. Also, the Govt of India in their Gazette notification clearly stated that PG qualifications from these five English-speaking countries will be eligible to take up teaching appointments in Medical Colleges in India as Assistant Professor.
MCI Recognized MD & MS in UK – Acceptability in India.
PG Qualifications like MD & MS from UK are taken equivalent to MD and MS in India and the qualifications are eligible for taking up teaching appointment in medical colleges in India as Assistant Professor. In 2017, MCI made an amendment and recognised the PG Medical qualifications from UK for teaching appointments and considering them equivalent to MD/MS/DM/MCH as the case may be.
